How to Silk-Screen

Take a hammer and smash your television; pull the plug and walk to the front of your TV and place it in front of the TV. Kick-in any glass that remains. Push the box over; stand on it. Jump onto the lamp and swing in circles shouting your favorite punk rock song. Let go and land on your feet; rip your mother's silk curtains and throw them over the TV. Take a picture and upload it onto your blog.

New Translations!

las horas del sol te destruíran

me desperté a las una de la tarde
y aquí se oscurese a las cinco.

tengo cuatro horas pa eliminar de mi vida;
si no, las horas del día me derrotaran.

caminó por las calles por un rato
solo y desesperado.

aquí no hay nada mas para mi,
lo sé pero trato negarlo;
¡no hay nada!
ya no puedo ignorarlo.

¡esta idea me sofoca
y es insoportable!

es mi compañero indeseable que nunca sale de la casa y los otros días, sin razón
me trato de asesinar,
y lo ha hecho
otras innumerables veces.

quiero que tenga una forma física,
esta idea, para deshacerme del.

¿como pueden llenar todas estas horas
y que hacen con sus vidas
por
to
estos
años?

no me siento fuerte de muchas cosas,
pero las horas del sol te alcanzaran
y al final te destruíran.

- Translated from English by Andy Riverbed

the day hours will eventually destroy you

i woke up today at one in the afternoon
and it gets dark at five.

i have four hours to eliminate from my life;
otherwise, the daylight would defeat me.

i walk around outside for awhile
feeling really desperate and alone.

there is nothing left here for me.
i know this but i try to avoid it.
there is nothing!
i can no longer ignore it.

that thought is suffocating
and unbearable!

it is an unwanted roommate that never leaves the house and then tries to murder you,
suddenly,
one day for no reason,
and then countless times after that.

i want it to have a physical form,
so that i can make it go away.

how do people fill up all of these hours,
and what do people do with themselves
for
all
of
these
years?

i don't feel strongly about many things in life,
but the day hours will eventually catch up with you,
and ultimately destroy you.

Namjia

Last week, I think, I bought a DVD player. I bought the DVD player for the purpose of watching the Wholphin DVD collection that's available at Video Rodeo. For the past week and a half I've been watching through them. I'm on number 3. The first two are good. I liked number 2 a lot. I liked Miranda July in number 1, and when I saw her I saw the girl I've been obsessing about for the past two months. I just watched "A Stranger in Her Own City" which starred Namjia, a badass thirteen year-old girl, who went around without a veil, riding her bicycle (which is illegal for women in Yemen), and hanging out with boys, playing street-games. She was street. She was dirty, but always had a smile. People on the street yelled insults at her, and she'd snap back at them with snide remarks, insulting their fudamentalism. At one point in the short she was cursing Sanaa (or Saana?), and said she wanted to leave. At the end of the short, it said that seven months after the filming, Namjia had quit school and began wearing a veil. I felt very sad about this. I imagined being Namjia, and hating to wear the veil, but wearing it. I imagined being her and wanting to breathe fresh air. I imagined being her and wanting to run away from that place. The feeling was so intense that I turned off the DVD player and walked over to Library West, where I am right now typing this to tell someone how I felt about Namjia.

Right now, outside the building where I sit, there are many people dressed in orange and blue, drinking beer, staring at each others' faces, waiting for the football game.

Right now I'm going to stand up and walk to Reilly's and feed Mr. J, go home and check my mailbox and be disappointed if nothing's arrived, and continue watching Wholphin.
